Life after BMX: Dave Mirra's journey to the top of Ironman is underway - Sports Illustrated

Sports illustrated - Ryan Wallerson

In the summer of 2012, BMX legend Dave Mirra and his family watched their friend Eric Hinman compete in his first Ironman at Lake Placid. Mirra looked on as 2,500 athletes, including his buddy from his hometown of Syracuse, N.Y., swam two loops around Mirror Lake, biked 112 miles and finished with a 26.2 mile run through the town and around the lake.

Dave wasn’t immediately hooked by his first experience with Ironman competitions, but it didn’t take long before he’d found his newest passion.

Denver Post - Jason Blevins

ASPEN — Mike Schultz was hardly confident Friday as he strapped into his snowboard at the Winter X Games, even knowing he was standing on a prosthetic leg he designed. For Rio, Paralympian Alana Nichols focus on kayak

DENVER (AP) — Paralympian Alana Nichols calls them "pinch-me moments," when she can't quite believe she is actually in a particular situation.

Like when she rolled down the red carpet at the ESPY Awards or rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange. Or when she spoke at schools for Michelle Obama and spent the day traveling in a motorcade with the first lady.

And especially when she received her gold medal in wheelchair basketball at the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games. And again after capturing two more golds in sit-skiing at the 2010 Vancouver Paralympics.

Superman Hall of Heroes

I just spent two inspiring days in New York that can pretty much be summed up as a personal career highlight for me in my 20 years. A team of people from Warner Brothers and DC Entertainment came up with an amazing idea to honor real life heroes in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the creation of Superman. Over the past two days, I had the privilege to meet these real life heroes who are doing amazing things and are the first to be inducted into the Superman Hall of Heroes.
